On 25th December 2025, Grapes of New Hope (GNH), a refugee-led community organization based in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement in southwest Uganda, organized a joyful Christmas Party for Orphans at the Grapes of New Hope Centre in Juru.
A total of 585 orphans from the surrounding community were brought together for a day of celebration, unity, and shared happiness. The event began with an opening prayer led by Reverend Deogratias Ngiruwonsanga, invoking blessings of peace, joy, and hope for all the children. The program was officially launched by Marceline Gakuru, the Refugee Welfare Community (RWC) III representative, who encouraged the children to remain hopeful and focused on their dreams despite life’s challenges.
The celebration featured fun and interactive activities including:
Games such as tug of war and sack jumping
Dance performances and music sessions
Group activities designed to foster teamwork, laughter, and community spirit
These activities were aimed at creating a supportive, joyful environment that brought smiles and excitement to every participant.
During the event, the orphans expressed heartfelt appreciation for the initiative, noting that such celebrations remind them that people genuinely care about their future. They also shared recommendations highlighting ongoing needs in the community, such as support for education, basic necessities, and opportunities for talent development.
The event strengthened community bonds and re-affirmed Grapes of New Hope’s commitment to empowering vulnerable children through inclusive, uplifting programs. Grapes of New Hope continues to provide support that encourages resilience, dignity, and hope among refugees and host communities alike. (Grapes of New Hope)
