Who We Are
Refugees Leading the Way to a Brighter Tomorrow
Grapes of New Hope (GNH) is a refugee-led, community-based organization founded in 2021 within Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Uganda. We are dedicated to restoring hope and empowering vulnerable groups including youth, single mothers, children at risk, and persons with disabilities by fostering resilience, inclusion, and self-reliance. Our work is rooted in the belief that every individual, regardless of background or circumstance, deserves dignity, opportunity, and a voice in shaping their future.
At GNH, we transform lives through practical skills training, psychosocial support, and advocacy. By addressing the interconnected challenges of displacement, poverty, and social exclusion, we equip refugees and host community members with the tools and confidence to rebuild their lives. Our programs emphasize vocational empowerment, gender-based violence prevention, education, mental health, and peacebuilding to promote holistic and sustainable development.
As a refugee-led organization, we understand the realities faced by those we serve because we live them. This lived experience drives our commitment to community-driven solutions and meaningful partnerships. Together with local and international stakeholders, we are building a resilient and inclusive society where refugees and host populations can thrive with dignity and hope
Our Approach
Empowering Change, One Life at a Time
At Grapes of New Hope (GNH), our work is guided by principles that ensure our programs are effective, sustainable, and community-centered. We believe that the most meaningful change comes when those affected are actively involved in designing and implementing solutions.
Community-Led: Every initiative is designed and implemented by refugees, for refugees. This ensures that our programs address real needs, reflect local realities, and foster a sense of ownership and empowerment among participants.
Rights-Based: We advocate for the protection, dignity, and inclusion of all vulnerable groups. Our interventions are rooted in human rights principles, ensuring that every individual’s voice is heard and respected.
Evidence-Driven: GNH uses data, lessons learned, and feedback from our communities to inform policies, strategies, and programming. This approach allows us to continuously improve and ensure that our interventions create lasting impact.
Collaborative: We actively partner with local, national, and international stakeholders—including governments, NGOs, and community leaders—to strengthen our programs, expand our reach, and foster collective action for social change.
Through this approach, GNH creates programs that are not only effective but also sustainable, inclusive, and transformative, empowering refugees and host communities to overcome challenges and build resilient futures.
