Mindset change

From Mindset to Milestones: A Refugee Youth Success Story
On 11th July 2024, at Nakivale-Juru Main Hall, Grapes of New Hope, with support from Immigration Summit, hosted a powerful engagement themed:
“Empowering Refugees Through Mindset Change.”

What began as a one-day training has now become a story of transformation.
The training focused on helping refugee youth understand the power of mindset shifting from fixed thinking to a growth mindset, building resilience, and embracing self-reliance in a context of decreasing humanitarian support.

The session was honoured by our Chief Guest, Jane Bidire, alongside inspiring voices, including Josephine Achia and Bahati Miracle, who challenged young refugees and nationals to rethink their limitations and rediscover their potential.
At the time, many youth expressed fears:
“Without aid, I cannot survive.”
“I am too old to go back to school.”
“I don’t have capital.”
Through guided discussions, storytelling, and practical scenarios, we explored:
✔ Fixed vs Growth Mindset
✔ The power of resilience
✔ Self-discovery and character development
✔ Entrepreneurial and leadership thinking
But the real story begins after the training.

📊 The Follow-Up Assessment – Real Impact
After conducting an assessment of the youth who attended, we discovered something remarkable:
✨ Some participants returned to complete Senior Four (S4)
✨ Others completed Senior Six (S6)
✨ Several joined Senior Five (S5)
✨ Others enrolled in and completed vocational skilling programs
✨ Some are now self-reliant entrepreneurs
✨ And others are pursuing university education
They were not given cash grants.
They were not promised jobs.
They were given a shift in thinking.
And that shift changed direction.
🌍 Why This Matters
In a refugee context where funding is reducing, and dependency is a risk, mindset change becomes one of the most sustainable investments. Building resilience and self-sustainability is not optional it is necessary.Today, seeing these young people continue school, build skills, and become self-reliant is our pride as Grapes of New Hope.

Our mission has always been clear with statements like:
To equip youth with life skills, leadership, and mindset transformation that enables them to thrive beyond aid.

💚 When They Thrive, We Thrive
This success is not about one event. It is about planting seeds of belief.
To our partners, speakers, and every youth who chose growth over limitation — thank you. The journey continues.
